Would you please use this thread to report words that are being edited out by the auto-filter that are safe non-profanity words? Thanks.

Example:

Pers-ecution

circumstance

BaylorBabe

suspicion

more characters blah blah blah - can we fix that too? :)

edit: looks like suspicion is already fixed, thanks! :)

Babe - the 10 character minimum is by design to prevent some of the silliness like "Honk" etc that lesser sites put up with. ;)

D ick(seen multiple instances where the name has been edited out, Cheny, Vitale, etc.). Pen is and vag ina probably don't belong on the list, unless the site is catering exclusively to prudes.

Nope we allow sorority girls on here as well as the Baylor Women's League.

We have moderators to fix that. We don't need the board to do all the moderating for us.

Right. And when those reasons don't make sense to me, and when I think they could drive away potential customers in any way, shape, or form, I feel as though I should say something.

This isn't my board and I'm not going to act like it is, but I feel I'd be doing a huge disservice by not speaking my mind on things I think make a difference.

There are reasons some things are set up the way they are that may not be apparent to you. Suggestions are fine, but perhaps some of them could be pm's.

Just checking in to see if penis and vagina are still banninated words, since none of the mods ever addressed it.

Edit: They are not.

Edit #2: Apparently pre teen(as one word) is blocked. This post is going to draw some attention from government keyword scanning computers. :)

you can say vagina and penis but not a certain word that start with mo and ends with ron? i dont get it. i think y'all have a good site here it seems to me you need to ease up just a little bit on the censoring of words. if you can say it on primetime TV, it ought to be all right here.

There is another site where personal attacks and related words are accepted. After careful thought, we choose to disallow it.

I'm all for not allowing personal attacks, but I've gotta go with CS on this one. Auto-censoring words other than profanity can cause confusion, especially when it pops up out of nowhere. There could be situations where "mor on" or what have could have a legitimate place in discussion(let's say Obama called all southerners mo rons). I know last night I had a post where I was talking about those National Socialist's from Germany, and it showed up as asteriks, which completely changed the tone of my post, since God only knows what those asteriks could be replacing, right, especially considering my rant earlier in the thread. :D

So like I said, I'm all for disallowing personal attacks, and it seems that we have enough mods to pull that off, but I would save blocking words for those which are offensive even out of context.

Edit: I'm gonna use this post for testing words. ******* ****

Otherwise, it really isn't a democracy. There are reasons for the autocensor. It will undoubtedly change over time but right now words that are related to personal attacks are out. If you have a word that is being blocked that you wish to recommend for being unblocked add it here or send a pm to atxtraveller or myself. That is the method for change, not further complaining about the auto filter. It stays.

I'm not disagreeing with the auto-filter being in place. Not at all, actually---I want it to be here. But the word "mo ron" is not a word that should be censored. This was discussed at the tailgate before your arrival--the censor is WAY too strict as it is right now, and these types of words need to be removed from being censored.

I am a huge fan of the auto-censor, but I think what caesar said about it being on Primetime TV is perfect---we're all adults here, and can hear words like "mo ron" and "id iot" as long as it's not a personal attack.

Once again, if people have suggested words follow the protocols and either post them here or send them to atxtraveller or myself, but the complaining about the autofilter should stop.

This is really easy. if you want a word feed up, let us know and it can be evaluated. Otherwise, let it gooooooooo.......

Geez giga do you have to respond last to every post? ;)

You interpret it differently as there are people complaining in this thread. CS's post is a complaint about censored words. Don't complain, just follow the system to have the words evaluated. We don't need really need the request to be couched in a lecture or complaint. Just give us the word. And you may not have gotten complaints, but I have fielded the complaints about it so, yes they do complain about it. That is why this thread exists. To allow for an evaluation of words. There is a mechanism in place. This is a non-issue if people will use it.

could you post the Index Prohibitorum so that we know what is and isnt censored?

i dont have a problem with the auto-censoring, itself, but i do think the list is too restrictive. but maybe i'm in the minority on this point.

It's all good CS. I do not have that list, but perhaps atxtraveller can make it available. I am not sure. However, if you encounter a word that you would like to be removed, let us know and it will be evaluated fairly. Thanks for your input.

Think we could take a look at preteeen(without the extra 'e' of course) and naazi(which I can understand being sensitive about, but it could result in awkward areas were we to ever discuss WW2, or use them in a political context).

Just to be clear, as this topic has raised quite a bit of controversy....

Obviously, starting the board with no filter, and filtering words as we uncovered them would have been ridiculous, and a ton of work... so we borrowed a word filter from a different vBulletin based system.

There are definitely many words on here that we will have to sort out as the board grows, and I absolutely thank each of you for taking time and letting me know where these filters may be too sensitive.

I will let mo-ron back in, but posts will be removed if the word Mo-ron is directed at a poster, athlete, or coach that would publically see this. Pro Athletes, Politicians, and other celebrities can be given the moniker as much as you like (except Kathy Griffin, she is only D-List).

Na-zi will also come back in, but see above paragraph.
