View Full Version : Attendance for the game?

Anyone have any ideas on tix sold?
The absolute worst attendance I've ever seen in FCS was against Mizzou in 2004. Announced attendance was around 22,000. Actual was probably in the upper teens.
They had moved the game from it's 6pm slot to 9pm to put it on TV and it rained most of the morning and then stopped at about 3pm or so. We had a good sized tailgate planned that day and I went out there about 4pm and got everything set up. We had plans to feed about 50 people and it looked like, based on the amount of people showing up a few hours ahead of time, that we were going to run out of food. Then, about 1.5 hours before the game, the sky just opened up and it flooded right up until gametime. The parking lot was practically empty by the time the game started as people left in droves during the storm. It was hot, wet, and humid and all around miserable...especially since I spent a crapload of money on a tailgate that no one stayed at for very long.
Either way, that was by far the worst attendance I'd ever seen in FCS. There were virtually no students there.
I think it's reasonable to expect at least a legitimate 30k there with an announced of about 35k. If it were a Saturday game, I think we could expect a legitimate 35k with 40k announced number.
Brandon (hopes we have a reasonable crowd there)

I have heard from a reliable source that 38000 have been sold as of a few days ago. With a couple more days to go plus walk ups the crowd should be at 40000+ by game time. Hopefully it will match the opener in '06 vs TCU, with the opposite game result.

Mizzou game also had a horrible downpour prior to the game. It was also the game where I met my wife.

Really? That's great. I imagine a good chunk of those are season ticket holders and I'm quite confident we'll lose some of those to it being on Thur, but if we can get 35k butts-in-seats, I'd be happy.

I expect that 38K number includes the four sections of tickets (8,000 tickets) given to the Waco Chamber of Commerce to sell for $20.
I doubt the Chamber has sold half that amount and probably less than half the number sold will actually get used. A lot of businesses will buy a batch to get the Chamber off their backs and give them to employees.
To Joe Waco, a free Thursday night ticket for a TV game is worth exactly what it cost him. Odds are he won't show because of parking costs and hassling with his kids.
I expect an announced crowd of 35K with about 28K showing up. I think the student crowd will be good especially the freshmen, but the upperclassmen arrive late and leave early.
If Wake Forest is up by two touchdowns in the third quarter, the stands will be half full at the start of the fourth quarter.

I learned to post from Baylor Dan.
No sunshine pumping or tub thumping allowed.

There is good buzz here locally about the game both on and off campus. I look forward to a large and rowdy crowd.

Strike 1- GAME on TV
Stike 2 - Temp around K/O near 100
Stike 3- Thursday night on a holiday weekend and the visiting team will not travel that well. Plus the Cowboys are on that night as well keeping Joe Waco at home to watch both on the tube . Also a weeknight crowd will hurt your D/FW gamers , not all but some espeically those with kids in school or those who teach ........
This equals a max of 25-28k ........

I dont think there is any reason to expect more than 28k, regardless of tickets sold. I would love to be wrong, however.

I've heard a bunch of folks are taking 1/2 day on THursday and all of Friday off and turning this into a nice 4 1/2 weekend. Many of these types are from Dallas, Houston and Austin. I think we'll have a solid, but not huge crowd.

Most of them need to get back to work and make me some money...like you!

So, how many were there? Sure didn't look like very many on TV, but camera angles can fool ya.

Couldn't really tell but from watching the game from the bar last I would have to guess about 15,000 maybe.

I doubt it was more than that myself.

There were more than that. No idea what the announcement was but I would estimate there were between 25-30k. If you saw the stands after the 5 minute mark in the 2nd quarter you might have seen 15k. If you saw them with 5 to play...it was me and 4 of my closest friends and not many more :(

I did notice that last night. Now I know what everyone is always talking about. Kinda sad.

To be honest, it was awfully hard to suffer through the 3rd and 4th quarters.

Hell, I put it on pause and went for a walk with the kids in the third quarter. Alumni side looked pretty good, but the student side looked like it was just the Line about 5 minutes in.
I would say the actual attendance at its highest point sometime in the first quarter was probably 30K.

I heard on the radio this morning that the announced crowd was 30,000. I didn't think more than 25,000, from what I saw.

students provided atleast a 1/3 of the crowd. Alumni and Waco support was weakkk

Student section looked packed. The rest of the stadium, not so much. The crowd on the home side had no density whatsoever.

The word I got in the third quarter was 26K but they had yet to add skybox attendance etc which usually adds another 1-2K.
