I just had a recruiter call me about a position! Completely out of the blue. (Quick,...someone cut the duct tape,...my head is about to explode,...."must...relieve.... the pressure!")

I was kinda of looking to get out of God's Country, but this job is in the same town as the last. I'm still researching the job, but I'll get back to everyone as soon as I figure out if there are any free samples involved. Perhaps bring this up in salary negotiations if it gets that far????

Good luck, my friend.

oh, a weather update....Ike earlier had a projected path of hitting New Orleans, or close to the same spot Gustav did previously.

Well, the cone of uncertainty still has it hitting the upper Texas Gulf Coast. The center line would be the Houston/High Island area. Let us pray that it does not go there.

I'm Wolverine Announcements Meteorologist Wants and this weather report has been brought to you by Betty Crocker Cake Icing. Sugar Shot in a tub! Pick it up today!

Impressive, my friend. You are not making me regret my appointment decision.

One of my employees wanted to marry one of the daughters.

One of the hazards of having such cute girls is that I have to run off lots of boys. They have good morals and are very hip to the "player moves" or so they tell me. The girls are really sweet, and are all "daddy's girls." They cook sweets for me, buy me Bass Pro gift cards, and take good care of me. I think I'm set when old age comes around.

True story: twice a year, the boy and I take out all the guns and I teach him how to break them down for cleaning, etc. We were in the middle of taking apart an AK-47 when the oldest (short blonde hair) came walking in with some boy.

He looked at the table and turned white. It took every ounce of strength to not laugh out loud. My son said he thought he was "weird looking and pale." I told him fear will do that to a man. :)

well, even us meteorologists get things wrong every now and then. This was one of those 'pop-up' showers. Chance of rain about 20%, rain chances increase as we go into your Monday night and Tuesday before subsiding late Tuesday night. Chances of pop-up showers will persist for your Wednesday.

That better? *lol*

We watched it come from about a mile offshore and then up the beach, across the parking lot, through McDonald's drive-thru, across the Seawall, and then down 4th street headed straight for UTMB. I have been in a waterspout before. Scared the crap out of me.

Me and wife were fishing on the Port A jetty. We looked and saw people running back to shore. We looked behind us, and there were two. One went straight to shore, and right down the pier closest to the jetty.

The other headed straight to us. We hunkered down between those giant rocks out there and held on for dear life. It seemed like an eternity, but it only lasted about 2 minutes or less. We both had on a rain jacket with a hood, and somehow we were completely drenched. Scared the crap out of me.

After we regained our composure, we started rolling the lines in to leave, and they all had fish on them. We stayed for about 2 more hours, slaying the fish. We caught more than we ever had that day after the storm blew by.

That's how I got my job at Dell. They called me. It was nice. Good luck, HCB.

Mylicon. Stock up on it.

Doesn't do a darned thing for her.

The diagnosis from the doc today is that she's having night terrors, and they're apparently common around this age. She said we're doing everything right and to keep doing what we're doing and it'll all work itself out.

Just had a water spout hit our beach. We watched it come from about a mile offshore and then up the beach, across the parking lot, through McDonald's drive-thru, across the Seawall, and then down 4th street headed straight for UTMB. It was throwing seagulls around like they were BS's meat and Giga was the receiver.

I was right on the other side of McDonald's from it, as I was just leaving the beach. It was pretty cool looking. And it dropped a good amount of rain on my car. Poor seagulls, though.

Okay, this is getting ridiculous. I'm on the line with Allstate trying to find out how our insurance coverage will shake out if we sustain damage from the hurricane, should it come here (just trying to be prepared). They're so dodgy on coastal coverage that I want to have a ballpark idea of what we have. (For example, they will not renew our policy unless we sign a hurricane exclusion now and they pulled the same number with flood, I think last year.) I swear the lady has just sat the phone down and is on break or something. It shouldn't be this hard. Heaven help us if we do have to file a claim. That could take years.

ok, I'm now in a pickle.
I just checked and the REI store in Austin is having their fall garage sale this saturday!!! SOP has been to leave the house by 6 am and arrive by 7 for the 9 a m opening. This puts me about 80 people back in line. Normally I'm in there until 11, but we have an 11 30 kickoff!! I've got more gear than I know what to do with, but thats not the point people!!! The deals have been really good, but I'm worried since last time you couldn't go up and haggle them down any. Last spring I spent about $250 for over $2000 worth of gear!!

A brief visit back in time to the spring 07 sale highlights,......
Ski parka with passive avalanche rescue system for under $30!
$130 Garmin gps for under $20!! (I should know the price since I already had 2 of that model)

I've gotta mapquest it to see the distance/time issues I'll be facing to make both the garage sale and game.

p.s. If you see a guy wearing a parka, snorkel, and hip boots at the tailgate, it doesn't mean I'm crazy,.....just that I got really good deals!!!

It has just as good of a chance to hit the big sand bar below Texas as it does the Texas Gulf Coast after the latest adjustment in models.

What was wrong?
Bad connection at the battery, lots of corrosion. Took next to nothing to fix it. It would have needed a battery anyhow.

True story: twice a year, the boy and I take out all the guns and I teach him how to break them down for cleaning, etc. We were in the middle of taking apart an AK-47 when the oldest (short blonde hair) came walking in with some boy.
I talked to the oldest for about 20 minutes the other night, she is very polite and kind. I didnt know she knew how to break down an AK. I have a 1967 Romanian version that could use a good cleaning. I always accept help cleaning :D

I invited them all to come back, we can always find tickets for people and if they are your kids they are always welcome. Just tell them that people wearing A&M gear will be turned away :D

My cable decided to be selective in what channels to actually show right now. The digital cable was pretty jumpy earlier. I unplugged and plugged back in, and now it decided it no longer likes sports.

ESPN? Still waiting for it to come back after 30 minutes. Soap network? Perfectly clear.

Crazy thing... Our TV blinked tonight. Picture went totally out for about 30 seconds, though we could hear audio. We thought great, the TV has died. Then it came back. And the picture is about 1000 times better than it was before. Seriously. It's crazy. The TV could just be putting up a brave last stand, but boy tonight has been enjoyable to look at.

Sorry, Wants, but looking at all the models, you'Re (pooky's HElping type and she likes the caps lock key) not quite right here. All the models except two show it going in at Brownsville (really more like KingsviLLE) or northern Mexico. Check Weather Underground if you want to look at the information.

What concerns me is that UKMET has been most reliable tracking this storm (the only one showing it actually going into the Gulf to begin with) and UKMET still shows it tracking to Freeport. So we're not out of the woods yet. I am still waiting until tomorrow/Thursday to make any determinations for us.

From Dr. Master's:

Track forecast for Ike
A trough of low pressure is currently passing to the north of Ike, and this trough has been able to turn Ike north of due west. Ike is now moving west-northwest, and this motion is expected to continue today, taking the storm across the western tip of Cuba, where Hurricane Gustav crossed just two weeks ago. By Wednesday, Ike is expected to take a more westerly motion again, as high pressure to the north builds in. As Ike approaches Texas on Friday, a new trough of low pressure is expected to pass to the north, potentially turning Ike to the northwest.

The latest 0Z/6Z (8 pm/2 am EDT) computer models show a variety of timings and strengths for Friday's low pressure trough, resulting in a high amount of uncertainty on where Ike will make landfall. Most of the models predict the trough will arrive too late and be too weak to affect Ike, and take Ike ashore near the Texas/Mexico border.

Nah, not Coke. There was coke, there was crazy chemist concoction, and then there was Nein playing around and going "Oh, ****, you ****ed this up, Solan." Then there was 11.00 and some Baylor football BS.

Sounds about like Nein. He has some good phrases about bolts being on too tight too. Not as much BU football BS on brake repair, but lots of baby talk.

Agree TG on the violation and vulnerability feel. Usually some random crackhead.

Or Chip, at least that's what Wacoso told me.

Just had a BBQ pie at the store. Mmmmmm mmmmmmm!!!

Leftover taco pizza here. Baby is about to try zucchini for the first time.

Strawberry fig jelly! Is that like strawberry fig newtons? because those are yummy :)

OMG. Newtons rule.

Sorry about that Cheif, that really stinks!

At Cory's old apartment there was a certain few parking spaces that didn't get covered by the security videos and the cars parked there would often get broken into. His truck was victim a couple of times before he figured it out - anyway one time they went through this HUGE book of CDs he had laying in the car (200+ at least) and took all the rap, and left all the country. Apparently they had plenty of time on their hands

That's hilarious.

Okay, The Bad Napper is fussy and has made it clear she's tired of sitting on the couch. Later, friends.

KILLEEN, Texas — A Fort Hood soldier shot to death his lieutenant during a confrontation at his off-base apartment Monday, then killed himself, police said.
The lieutenant and a staff sergeant went to the Army specialist's apartment, and a confrontation ensued. Killeen police officers responded to a call of a man with a gun, and they saw the specialist hit and then shoot the lieutenant as they arrived at the scene, Killeen police spokesman Carroll Smith said.
The officers returned fire, but the specialist shot himself in the head, Smith said. Police are still investigating what started the confrontation, she said.
Autopsies have been ordered on the lieutenant and the specialist. The staff sergeant was not injured.
The identities of the men and their unit were withheld pending notification of their families.
The unit is training currently and not scheduled to deploy for several months, said Maj. Jay Adams, a Fort Hood spokesman.
Killeen police are leading the investigation, but Fort Hood's criminal investigators are coordinating with them, Adams said.

Adams said it was too early to say whether there were any previous problems between the soldier and his superiors.

Two Little Boys

After a hardy rainstorm filled all the potholes in the streets and alleys,
a young mother watched her two little boys playing in the puddle through her kitchen window.
The older of the two, a five year old lad, grabbed his sibling by the back of his head and shoved his face into the water hole.
As the boy recovered and stood l aughing and dripping, the mother runs to the yard in a panic. Why on earth did you do that to your little brother she asks as she shook the older boy in anger.
We were just playing 'church' mommy he said, I was just baptizing him.....in the name of the Father, the Son and in...the hole-he-goes.'

$0.60 can of coke could fix that. Did you replace the cable?I assure you it will not. There wasnt a need to replace the cable or even the end. Just need a good cleaning with the proper chemicals. All is well now.

Not so much on the vulnerable thing. More angry and trigger-happy.

It was 4 guys in a Lexus SUV. Likely some HS punks.
After my car was broken into the second time in Illinois I finally decided that I would leave a surprise. The third time the dog was in the garage (car in the driveway). Dog barks, I check the drive from upstairs, bunch of kids in a Camaro. I proceed downstairs, grab shotgun, open garage and unleash a 90lb Rottweiler. Hoodlum #1 is getting his *** torn up by my Rott, his "friends" try to drive away (nice friends, huh?), cant get traction and just spin tires in the ice while ex wife is on the phone to police.

When the cop showed up I am sitting on my front porch in a black hooded sweatshirt sporting a shotgun with the Rott at my side. I promise you would have thought this was the ghetto. Cop asks me to kindly put the gun down and back away from it, which I do. I explain everything told him what he was looking for and a license plate number. He chuckled and said, "Well, with a dog that size, I bet the chunk out of his *** is enough to make sure that doesnt happen again. If not, I bet peeing his pants when he heard the shotgun rack is."

Oddly, no one EVER tried to break in to the car again, I even started leaving the doors unlocked! As a random aside, it was a POS RX7 convertible that I owned for 2 years, it was broken into FOUR **** TIMES in 2 differents states and 3 different cities.

I am so mad my blood is boiling.

I made a comment on the Starbucks Closes thread on FFA. This was my post:

The thing lacking on this map is showing which store is closing...the one IN the shopping center, or the one in the Tom Thumb in the SAME shopping center! I may not know where to get my $9 cup of black due to this lack of information. Someone better tell Starbucks quick, they may lose business!

Somebody not only neg red'd me, but in the comment they said **** you.
Now, I am not one to get all high and mighty, but I do my best to not go crazy personal on the poster, no matter how crazy the poster may go. Also, I LEAVE MY NAME. I am an adult. If I want to tell you to **** off I will, and I will make sure you know I was the one that said it.

I sent a PM to CeasarScott asking if he could tell me who left it. If he wont tell them, I asked for him to pass this message along from me:

"I am grown up enough to sign my name to ANY rep I give. If you have a problem with me making a smart-aleck post about Starbucks that's fine, but there is really no reason to get personal about it."

I know I shouldnt be mad cause of the childish crap that happens over there, and I know this is one of the many reasons that this site was created (and why I sponsor this one and not the other). But this is crap. Pure and simple.

Its no big deal, as mentioned before in several cases, we do want to make this site safe for all public visitors... even figments of certain people's imaginations.

Yeah, I only said the word "stupid" and got reprimanded for it. :D

There really is no reason to get that angry even though it's sometimes difficult.

Fine. For now. Going to suck later this week.

The mayor did issue a voluntary evacuation for the West End today. That makes it look more likely that I'm going to my parents' house with the baby Friday. Although we're behind the very end of the Seawall, our water supply is tied to the West End's. If it floods down there (and anything beyond a 3 ft storm surge will cause a flood) they'll likely shut off the water supply to keep it from being overrun. That will shut off our water supply and I don't want to be in a house with an infant and no water.

I'll make the determination about whether or not I take the irreplaceable things with me probably Thursday, depending on how the track is looking. The hurricane is so all over the place that I think everyone's pretty much baffled as to where it's actually going to go.

MSNBC has a story up tonight that talks about Galveston. It said that if a Category 3 goes straight into Galveston and heads up the Houston Ship Channel, the effects will be more disastrous than Katrina. It also quoted the head of the Texas Windstorm Insurance Fund--who everyone down here has to get their windstorm insurance from (for example, Allstate covers windstorm for us through 9/22, after that I have to sign a waiver to renew and then go to TWIC for windstorm coverage and FEMA for flood coverage)--TWIC said their exposure in Galveston County alone was more than $18 BILLION. Yeah, you read that right...$18 Billion.

What will be really ugly is if it shifts and they need to evacuate down here, since they don't really have any good idea where it's going right now. There will be so little time to get out that it will be a huge mess, I fear.

I think about all this, and then I think about the folks living in Galveston on September 8, 1900. One hundred and eight years ago yesterday, people woke up and just went about their day. The wind was blowing and the gulf was choppy, but they never knew what was coming until it got here, and of course by then it was too late. In a weird way, we have all this technology, and we know it's coming, so we can sit here and hypothesize, but for this particular storm, we don't know WHERE it's coming. At any rate, the anniversary of the 1900 storm is always kind of somber to me. Perhaps it's because I'm a BOI.

The wreaths were on all the markers. Pretty somber to drive past it all as well.
