I just saw that on Yahoo.

Yeah, it's all over the radio. He's calling it a team building event. The campus newspaper estimates that the team owes them $500. I'd make them pay up and then reprint the edition. :)

While I agree they did wrong, I don't see how the newspaper can demand payment. The distribution is free meaning you don't have to pay to get the paper. There is no law stating only one to a "customer".

Wouldn't it be like someone taking all the copies of the Lariat??? No big deal
So what are everyone's thoughts on Griner?
I think it is getting way more coverage than it needs. I feel like the coverage is way more than when a mens player does the same thing or a pro. While it was wrong of her, it was also the officials fault for letting the play get out of hand by tech's player. In my opinion she is just as much at fault as Griner.
Texas Golfer

I don't think it's getting too much coverage. The Oregon player who punched the Boise State player after being taunted got a lot of coverage. Griner is an excellent player who needs to keep her composure. She's only a freshman and she'll mature.

in my opinion that got appropriate coverage because it was a reaction to something that did not call for a punch. Wasn't there another college player that threw a punch during the season in a pile and very little happened?
I am not saying Griner's situation did, but the physical play of the game was out of control. She was getting pushed around and the officials just let it go. I am really upset that she did it. It was uncalled for and out of place.
However, I hate the crap I am reading about it. Things like her reputation is hurt forever, Baylor's rep, Women's basketball, etc. I highly doubt that in 10 years this is the one thing people will remember about her.

LUBBOCK (March 4, 2010)--Baylor dunking sensation Brittney Griner will be suspended at least one game, and possibly longer, after punching an opposing player in the face.
Big 12 spokeswoman Joni Lehmann said Thursday that NCAA rules
require Griner to sit out No. 14 Baylor's regular-season finale against Texas on Sunday because of a "fighting act" that led to her ejection. She says the league is deciding whether further disciplinary action is warranted.
Baylor officials have not commented on the matter or have they said what kind of suspension Griner might face.
The freshman punched Texas Tech's Jordan Barncastle after the two players tangled in the second half of Baylor's 69-60 win in Lubbock on Wednesday night.
Barncastle's father and former high school coach, Doug Barncastle, said his daughter's nose was broken. He declined to comment further.
Brittney Griner scored 21 points before
getting ejected from the game to lead No. 14 Baylor past Texas Tech
69-60 on Wednesday night.
Officials tossed the freshman with 9:01 remaining after she punched Texas Tech sophomore forward Jordan Barncastle in the face.
Baylor was up 55-39 when Barncastle fouled Griner while guarding her under the Lady Bears basket. As the Tech player was moving away and untangling her arm from Griner, the Baylor standout swung and landed a punch with her right hand on Barncastle's face.
Tech (17-12, 5-10 Big 12) trailed 51-31 with 11:19 remaining but used a 14-5 run after the punch to pull within 60-55 with 3:01 left. Baylor hit 8 of 12 free throws down the stretch to seal the win, the fifth straight for the Lady Bears (22-7, 8-6).
Jordan Murphree scored 16 points to lead Texas Tech, which was
outrebounded 42-26.

This morning I went to sign my dog up for welfare.
At first the lady said: "Dogs are not eligible to draw
welfare."
So I explained to her that my dog is a mix in color,
unemployed, lazy, can't speak English and has no
frigging clue who his Daddy is.
He expects me to feed him, provide him with housing and medical care, and feel guilty because he is a dog.
So she looked in her policy book to see what it takes to qualify.
My dog gets his first check Friday.

Obama and cool are two words that barely belong in the same sentence. I am so glad that our President has no issues to deal with though and can spend so much time working on a bracket, go over it with ESPN in an interview, and I'm sure use taxpayer money to pay for the poster size bracket (ok i know it doesn't cost much but I am sure he did not pay for it). I mean it is a relief to know that there are no issues going on that he needs to focus on and can spend what I'm sure took 30+ minutes to do.

I was disappointed that I didn't see the second half of the BU-Dookie game last night as I was really not feeling well. When my co-worker sent me a text that BU is Final Four bound, I quickly ran to the TV and saw our ladies celebrating the victory.
I got to McAlister's-Baylor to purchase dinner which would go toward 20% to help a friend with her medical bills. It was a great turnout there, and I met with several of my deaf friends. I was sitting alone at a table chatting with four deaf friends right across from me. I then saw three ladies starting to sit down at the table next to mine. Someone signed Melissa Jones, and I quickly turned around and saw her sitting there. I showed her my green BU Sweet 16 shirt and she gave it a thumbs up. Later, I gave her a Sic Em Bears signal.

man it has already been a busy week and it is only tuesday.
yesterday found out a friend of mine is being laid off as well. then today he heard that his company is creating a totally new position and hiring a person for that job but had to let him and about 30 others go due to "financial shortages." That just doesn't seem right.... seems like that should be almost illegal.

It's good to read that Lace will keep playing for the Green and Gold next year.
In addition to that good news, we will have Stargell Love from NC, Perry Jones from Duncanville, and Bakari Turner from Plano West playing for our Bears.
Makenzie Robertson knows she will have to work hard for her coach who happens to be her mom, and I knew Mulk will treat her the same as her other players.

This morning we had a Shattered Dreams presentation. it was pretty good and I think it actually affected several kids. for those that don't know this is the program where they stage a wreck, do the whole rescue with the Fire, police and EMTs. Ok so has anyone else heard about the kid that ran on the field during a Phillies game and was tased? There seems to be a bunch of uproar about it but I think it was totally fine. It actually looked like he went down softer than if someone tackled him. So I have several questions.
1. Was it ok to tase him?
2. Why are so many people against the use of tasers? They are alot better than bullets.
3. Why do people getting tased get so much attention? I have been tased and it isn't a big deal after the fact.

"Don't tase me bro!"
I haven't seen the video, but it does seem a bit excessive unless somebody's health was in jeopardy. If he was judged to be a threat, then tase away. I did hear that he had called his dad from the game and asked if it would be a good idea to run on the field. Though supposedly a good student, he lacked some common sense.
Leaving early today to go back and work on the roof. Need to get as much done before my brother in law leaves. I'll be doing that tomorrow as well so have a good one.

Chip watch the video. I wouldn't say he appeared to be a threat but you never know. when he got tased it looked like he dove to the ground like he was sliding into base or onto a slip and slide.
I never understand why people complain about police using a taser, as long as it isn't misused. Here it wasn't. Now in those cases you hear about where a person gets tased 10 times and dies.... well obviously it was there.

Yeah, but it was pretty embarrassing to get beat soundly by my wife. :) Just had a bad round. Hit a beautiful shot only to bounce off a tree next to the green and come half way back to me or hit over a water hazard only to hit a rock and bounce onto a different hole or hit a cart path and bounce onto another hole.... Yeah, it's been fun. Haven't worked a full week at work in a month. :) Wyatt turned 5 and Brady turns 3 in a week. Growing up fast.
The Big 12 thing is politics. I'm glad they kept it together. We didn't have the Governor on our side this time so it's amazing that we had the results we did. I'm surprised ATM didn't go to the SEC, but since their whole identity is hating UT (including their school song), I guess it makes sense they would stay. It sure would have put them on equal footing with their rival to do it, but it would have killed the conference. I just wish we could have reached out and gotten Utah and someone else to fill the empty spots.
It looks like that place is up in Frederiksburg, so we are about 40 - 45 minutes away. We are just East of Boerne near hwy 46.

Hello all. Chip I think the Big 12 will still get 2 teams in the coming weeks/months to fill the empty spaces. I would look for Bosie State, Utah or TCU to want to join and finally be ina BCS conf. From what I keep hearing on ESPN, seeing in articles online, etc this things is not over yet. It sounds like by the time the two schools actually leave the big 12 there will be two teams ready to jump in. One report said they are only waiting a while because the new schools want all the details worked out and want to be sure that the big 12 is going to survive.

Boise State joined the Mountain West last week and supposedly Utah is set to join the Pac 10l this week. TCU doesn't bring any significant TV viewing areas as we already have all of Texas and that has been what this has all been about. Also, UT and OU hated the Big 12 Championship game so they are happy with the 10 team conference so everyone can play everyone else and not have to have that championship game. It's a gamble though because UT and OU need most of the other teams in the conference to get really good and win their bowl games so the conference will be seen as good and we can keep the automatic BCS bowl bid. If that doesn't happen over the next 5 or so years then the Big 12 is doomed.
cowboycwr
06-19-2010, 01:07 PM
All very true but... if the other conferences are adding teams and the big 12 is not then they will eventually have to do something to keep up. Also, the conference will see that the championship game was a money maker and will eventually want it back. TCU might not be the best choice but if you want to add a good football team then i could see them being added, if it is for tv markets then maybe a different school. I know Boise just joined a new conference but if given the chance to move to a BCS conference in a year or so don't you think they would take it? Utah is out but I could still see a move being made by other schools to join the big 12 in a year or two. Just my thought and it seems like there are some good quality teams with good tv markets out there.

I'd hate to take the low paying job and then get offered the high paying one but at the same time I dont want to pass up the lower paying job and then not get anything.

Thanks chip.
Welcome back trey.
So on the job hunt it looks like I may not get the higher paying one. They haven't filled it yet but if this much time has gone by with no call I am beginning to think I did not get it. The bad news is that I have until Tuesday to decide on the other job as well. After that they have to move on. I think I may take that one just so I have a job and if something else comes along take that but I hate to do that.

A bird in the hand cowboy. Don't forget that they would let you go to get somebody else if they felt it was a better fit.

Me to HR it is lonely around here.
Chip true
However, it doesn't matter as I got a job at the methodist children's home school here in waco. It sounds like a good job, pays well and I'm looking forward to it.
Oh but don't hold it against me.... it is a charter school of the Univeristy of Texas so i am a UT employee now but still very much a bear at heart!!!

That's great cowboy, congrats!
That's ok, I'm a conservative that wants limited government, but I work for the feds. Go figure! It was the job I could get after I was laid off. :)

Chip that is funny. Both your job and the letter. At least with your job you can claim you are trying to change things from the inside.
HR, hope everything is good with you as well.

Glad it's going well cowboy. So are you allowed to tell us what happened at Wolverine weekend? I saw that Solan actually made an appearance. I thought maybe he was locked away somewhere in Russia!Lots of drinking, golf on Friday, dinner @ Wacoso's Friday night, sunnin and shopping Saturday, Mexican food Saturday night, then on to more drinking, shuffleboard, and singing @ Crazy Oaks. Had around 30 Vines I think, and all is still well with the bunch. You missed a great time Chipper. There is just something special about this bunch. Yes, Solan was in his normal form. All in all, a great weekend.

Things are good. Today is the first day of Kindergarten for Wyatt and Preschool for Brady. Steph took Wyatt and said he wouldn't kiss her, but did give her a high five. I took Brady and all I got was a wave because he was too busy checking out all of the new things to play with. Fun times to remember. Tomorrow will be Wyatt's first time to ride the bus so that will be even more fun! Steph will put up some photos soon so I'll link to those tonight.

No Kiss...poor Steph...yep, then little men are growing...my youngest is joining the Coast Guard...enjoy it while it lasts. My boys haven't had a father since they were in 4th grade...and you can tell they are pretty screwed up with their relationship with him. Sad..such hostility is shown with the oldest. Wish he would just let it go...and let dad back into his life. The youngest is better with his Dad....and they are men now...but still hurting about what dad has done or not done with them. Make the most out of it...

Coast Guard? Cool. I had a friend at Baylor who dropped out to join up. Those guys see quite a bit of action with the illegals, drug runners, and rescues. Pretty cool job. Hope he likes it!
I guess it's hard when you feel abandoned by your Dad. Hopefully he patches it up some day. I know from the Dad's perspective, it is hard not being there every day for you son. Steven starts school as a Junior tomorrow and I'm not there to see him in choir or soccer.

HR sorry to hear that about your sons but it sounds like things are improving with the one at least.
My brother was in the Coast Guard for a while and seemed to like it until he screwed up and got booted out.
Chip, get used to that. As they get older they will hardly even acknowledge you at times in public. (just from what I have seen as a teacher) Some kids seems to get embarressed by anything their parents do and some never do and will always talk to them.
So far the job is going pretty well. It is taking some adjusting to get used to since it is a different kind of school and atmosphere than what I am used to.

Back to work. Nice weekend of hunting and fishing. We were literally right next to the border with Mexico. Had to drive through a gap in the border fence to get there. Pretty stupid to build a fence and leave giant gaps every 100 yards or so. You can see a picture of it on my wife's facebook page. Bad news is when we got home we didn't have any water. Guys this morning said it is probably the pump and will need to pull it, but couldn't in the rain. Grrrrr.
