I wish that young man still had his leg. I'm proud of him for fighting for Iraqi interests... I'm happy good can come of this bad decision. But we can't be the police of the world. There are tens or hundreds of dictators out there. Are we going to take them all out?

Or just the ones that can give us oil.

Seems we've been taking out quite a few, some of them give us cocaine.

With respect to his service, are we ready to dispatch troops to all these places? These people all live under dictatorships with bads dudes.

Could we define "dictator"? I appreciate this link tommie as it was very interesting but my first thought was how many of these people were using mustard gas to kill religious factions within their country and also to a neighboring country? And also, I wondered how many of the "dictators" are murdering tens of thousands of their countrymen (including numerous children) for many reasons?

I'm not barking at you at all, but those were my thoughts. I found your link interesting and contributory. I just wonder how we are defining "dictator"?

And God bless the young man in the video. I greatly appreciate his voice and his service and his perspective.

Pragmatism is reality in world politics. Sure, there are lots of dictators around the world and many of them are what we would call despots. But Brooks you're right, we can't police the world. We can't fix everything, but we do have interests.

Problems in the Middle East impact the entire world because they have oil and we need it (along with everyone else). That's simply reality. Problems in someplace like Laos or Zimbabwe don't directly impact our interests, so we really don't care. We can't afford to do anything about it even if we did. Maybe that's too cynical. I guess maybe we care but we're not willing to make the investment to help out.

So we react when we feel threatened and we react when our interests are impacted in a negative way. Other than that - we stay on the sidelines.

That's more honesty than most conservatives would give. But it wouldn't play NEARLY as well in the flyover states as the "bringing freedom" story.

could have done without the cheesy "god bless the USA" song at the end of the video

lol, there are just better songs out there that could have provided a little more drama to the video as opposed to the cheesy lee greenwood hit.

I mean, you're talking to a film and digital media major here. While I'm not supporting McCain, it was a good video, it was a good message, it was shot well, it provided that little twist at the end with his leg missing and then you throw in... god bless the usa? Sorry, i'm not looking at this from a political point of view at all. lol, blame it on the major.

Hey Bigshot, didn't know you were a digital film/media guy too! I agree on the song...I heard it and it was like straight velveeta out of the box.

haha @ velveeta!! Yep, I switched majors after being in business for 3 years, a big reason I'm still in school for my 6th year now. Oh well, i'm happier.

So True. look at media coverage of wars, genocide, etc in countries we have "interests" in. Rwanda= no interest so very little coverage. Then again that is most of Africa.

Sure there are dictators in some of these areas but there is nothing threatening either us directly or our nations interests.
